Research Foundation

First-ever NZ research fund for neuromuscular
conditions

Muscular Dystrophy Association of NZ Inc has established the first-ever New Zealand Research Foundation specifically dedicated to neuromuscular conditions.

Neuromuscular conditions are unpredictable. They can affect anyone even though there’s no family history. This means all families are potentially threatened by these severe and incurable conditions. This is one of the reasons we have established the Muscular Dystrophy Association of NZ Inc Research Foundation.

Although research collaboration will be world-wide in its scope, the Foundation will ensure that New Zealand members will participate in clinical trials and will receive direct benefits from developing treatments. This policy uses the best minds in the world and the best research techniques to bring tangible benefits to the people who matter most, the members of Muscular Dystrophy Association of NZ Inc.

An independent medical and scientific advisory committee will be appointed to assess and recommend priority areas for research. Appropriately-qualified candidates are currently being considered. It is intended the committee be comprised of health professionals and scientists with specific experience in neuromuscular conditions.

This is an important initiative of Muscular Dystrophy Association of NZ Inc because it brings to our members the precious gift of hope and confidence for tomorrow.

Donations and bequests can be directed specifically to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of NZ Inc Research Foundation. Contact info@nma.org.nz
